POSTCARD from Isernia

The idea for POSTCARDS FROM ISERNIA was born from a walk, taken with awareness of the here and now, through the historic center of my city, Isernia. It had been a long time since I’d been able to stroll calmly through its alleys, its little squares, and experience its beauty.

“History belongs to us, and we are part of it!”

Thus was born the idea of creating charming (virtual) POSTCARDS with shots that, more than others, “move something inside!”

Let’s talk about EMOTIONS.

Emotions are pure ENERGY.

They belong to us and improve us as human beings… if we learn to manage them!

Here’s the first postcard on the cover, reproduced here.

Together with my friend Simonetta, we show off our traditional Isernia dress in front of Vico Corte Vecchia.

A bit of history 🙂…

The alley is part of Isernia’s original road network, dating back to the Roman and medieval layout of the historic center, which developed around the decumanus maximus (now Corso Marcelli) and an orthogonal sequence of alleys.

The name “Corte Vecchia” indicates the ancient presence, during the Lombard-Norman era, of the “Corte della Bagliva,” a local magistracy established by Roger II in the 12th century; the court was located just south of Piazza Sanfelice along the alley.

The 1805 earthquake and the 1943 bombings profoundly changed the area: many narrow streets were destroyed and rebuilt, often without historical accuracy.

Several ancient streets have disappeared or changed in appearance, but Vico Corte Vecchia has preserved original segments of the city walls and historic portals.

Vico Corte Vecchia therefore represents a true open book on the city’s history: testimony to ancient institutions, a hub of artisan and commercial traditions, and a symbol of the urban transformations undergone by Isernia.
