Conoscete il Fratino?!
No, non è un piccolo frate…ma un dolce animaletto volatile che vive sulle coste sabbiose e fangose: anche in Molise.
Il suo nome ha origini medievali e si riferisce principalmente a un tipo di tavolo semplice e funzionale, utilizzato nei refettori dei conventi. Infatti, questa parola trae la sua origine dai frati, i religiosi che, durante i pasti, si sedevano attorno a questi lunghi tavoli rettangolari.
Pesa solo 42 grammi e pensate, fa il suo nido sulla spiaggia, nella sabbia!
Siccome rischia l’estinzione, purtroppo, deve essere aiutato.. e in fretta!
Sensibilizzare i più piccoli è un validissimo punto di partenza: è accaduto qualche settimana. Gli studenti son stati portati sulla spiaggia alla ricerca del Fratino.

Do you know the Fratino?
No, it’s not a little friar… but a sweet little bird that lives on sandy and muddy coasts — including in Molise.
Its name has medieval origins and mainly refers to a simple and functional kind of table once used in convent dining halls. In fact, the word comes from frati (friars), the monks who used to sit around these long rectangular tables during meals.
It weighs just 42 grams, and imagine this — it nests right on the beach, in the sand!
Sadly, it’s at risk of extinction and urgently needs our help.
Raising awareness among children is a truly great starting point: and that’s exactly what happened a few weeks ago. Students were taken to the beach in search of the Fratino.
Kudos to the teachers — now that’s Learning, with a capital “L”!
